Public Appointments: Equality

Asked by Nick TimothyConservativeMinistry of JusticeTabled Answered 18 June 2026UIN 9856

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, whether the Ministry of Justice carried out an Equality Impact Assessment prior to publishing the Public Appointments Diversity and Outreach Strategy 2026.

Answered by Jake Richards

In developing the Strategy, the Ministry of Justice considered equality issues - as it is required to do by the Equality Act’s Public Sector Equality Duty. Equality Impact Assessments are just one form of recording such work and are not required by the duty, which is focused on substance rather than form.
