Active Travel: Finance

Asked by Greg SmithConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 22 June 2026UIN 9697

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what outputs are expected to be funded by the projected £4.555 billion spending referred to in the Third Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, including estimates of (a) miles of new routes, (b) miles of improved routes, (c) crossings, (d) school streets, (e) cycle parking facilities and (f) other infrastructure to be delivered by 2030.

Answered by Lilian Greenwood

The majority of this funding is being provided through devolved settlements to local authorities, including through the Mayoral Transport Fund, the Integrated Transport Fund and Integrated Settlement. It is for authorities to determine how to use this flexible cross-modal funding to meet local priorities.

Local authorities are encouraged to consider the objectives set out in the Third Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy when planning and delivering interventions. The cross-modal funding will enable a wider range of infrastructure to include active travel provision, for example within transport interchanges and corridor schemes.
