Solar Power

Asked by Edward MorelloLiberal DemocratDepartment for Energy Security and Net ZeroTabled Answered 23 June 2026UIN 9908

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what steps his Department is taking to support the solar sector.

Answered by Michael Shanks

The Contracts for Difference scheme is the main mechanism for incentivising ground mount solar, with contracts awarded to over 12GW capacity to date.

The Government encourages the uptake of rooftop solar with favourable tax treatment, permitted development rights, new building standards, the Smart Export Guarantee, and the £15bn being made available through the Warm Homes Plan.

The Solar Roadmap sets out over 70 actions for Government and industry to drive deployment and grow the sector. Progress is being monitored by the Ministerially chaired Solar Council.
