Asked by Edward MorelloLiberal DemocratDepartment for Energy Security and Net ZeroTabled Answered 23 June 2026UIN 9910

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what support is available for community solar projects.

Answered by Michael Shanks

On 10 February 2026, we announced the Local Power Plan (LPP): a joint DESNZ‑Great British Energy (GBE) publication setting out the UK’s largest ever public investment in community energy, including community solar projects

Backed by up to £1 billion, GBE has committed to support at least 1000 local and community energy projects by 2030.

Great British Energy is developing further schemes to expand opportunities for community energy groups, including for solar deployment, with more information available later this year.
