Food Supply

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps she is taking to improve access to affordable and sustainable food.

Answered by Stephen Morgan

The Government is improving access to affordable and sustainable food through the Good Food Cycle, published in July 2025, which sets out a long-term plan for a healthier, environmentally sustainable food system. Measures have already been taken as part of wider efforts to reduce pressure on food prices due to the Middle East conflict include tariff reductions on a variety of customer staples. Targeted support is available for lower income households through the recently uplifted Healthy Start, plans for extension of free school meals, and the Holiday Activity and Food Programme.
