Broadband: West Dorset
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what assessment her Department has made of the adequacy of the time taken for full fibre rollout in West Dorset.
Answered by Kanishka Narayan
We are committed to ensuring 99% of premises receive gigabit coverage by 2032. To support this objective, Project Gigabit is the government’s programme to deliver gigabit-capable broadband to UK premises that are not included in suppliers' commercial plans.
The West Dorset constituency is benefiting from two Project Gigabit contracts, both being delivered by Wessex Internet. The contract covering the north of Dorset has already completed delivery. The second contract, covering the rest of Dorset and South Somerset, is due to deliver until 2029. Delivery is on track in line with contractual milestones.
West Dorset will also continue to benefit from commercial investment as broadband suppliers expand their commercial rollout across the constituency.
