Motorway Service Areas: Large Goods Vehicles

Asked by Joe RobertsonConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 23 June 2026UIN 9970

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what discussions she has had with the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government on reducing planning barriers to the construction of new secure lorry parks and motorway service facilities.

Answered by Keir Mather

The Government recognises the importance of supporting appropriate development through the planning system. That is why, earlier this year, we consulted on a set of policies within the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) which looks to set out planning considerations specific to freight and logistics development and its associated infrastructure. This includes access to transport networks, appropriate secure lorry parking provision, and motorway service facilities. The Government is considering the responses made as part of the consultation and will issue a response in due course.
