Sports: Transgender People

Asked by Neil Duncan-JordanLabourDepartment for Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 18 June 2026UIN 10011

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department plans to take to support trans inclusive community sports.

Answered by Stephanie Peacock

The Government believes that opportunities to play sport and get physically active should be available to everyone. We will continue to support sports to develop policies that protect fairness and safety, particularly when it is not possible to balance those factors with inclusion.

Individual sporting organisations remain responsible for establishing their own participation policies. It is incumbent upon the leadership of these bodies to ensure such policies comply with UK law and reflect their commitment to community inclusivity.

They are supported in this through guidance developed by Home Nation Sports Councils, including Sport England, who are considering the implications of the Supreme Court ruling and the publication of the updated EHRC Code of Practice.
