Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for EducationTabled Answered 22 June 2026UIN 10039

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether her Department collects data on swimming proficiency by (a) socioeconomic background, (b) ethnicity and (c) region.

Answered by Georgia Gould

The department does not collect data on socio-economic background and ethnicity with regards to swimming proficiency. We do collect information through the PE and sport premium digital expenditure reporting return at regional level.

The department is processing information gathered on swimming and water safety through the digital expenditure reporting return and will publish a summary of quality assured data in due course.
