Special Educational Needs: Codes of Practice
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether she plans to publish draft revisions to the SEND Code of Practice before legislation is introduced; and whether those revisions will be subject to a separate public consultation.

Under the reformed special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system, the Code will be the primary platform for setting out the duties that enable settings to take an inclusive high-quality approach to meeting the needs of children and young people with SEND. The National Inclusion Standards will also set out what ordinarily available provision should be in every setting across the 0 to 25 system, as well as the evidence-based tools, strategies and approaches for educators to draw on to identify and support children and young people with SEND.
Updating the Code is essential to ensure it reflects the changes we are proposing across the SEND system. We will undertake a full public consultation on proposed changes to ensure the updated Code reflects best practice and the views of children and young people, parents and carers, and professionals. Further plans for updating the Code, including consultation and timings, will be shared following publication of the Government’s response to the SEND Consultation document.
