Airspace: Unmanned Air Systems

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 24 June 2026UIN 10351

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps she has taken to update the Air Navigation Order 2016 to integrate Beyond Visual Line of Sight drone operations with other airspace users.

Answered by Keir Mather

Through the Future of Flight Programme, the Department is working with the Civil Aviation Authority, industry and other government partners to put in place the policy, regulatory and legislative framework needed to support routine Beyond Visual Line of Sight drone operations by 2027.

The Department continues to keep the legislative framework under review, including the Air Navigation Order 2016, and will consider further legislative changes where necessary to enable safe, secure and scalable drone operations.
