Roads: Repairs and Maintenance
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how much public funding has been allocated to pothole repairs in each region of England in each of the last five years.

The Department provides Highways Maintenance Block funding to Local Highway Authorities to help them maintain their local highway networks. Allocations for each region are as below:

These figures do not include City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (2022/23 - 2026/27) and Transport for City Regions Settlements (2026/27 - 2031/32) that several Mayoral Strategic Authorities are eligible for. These programmes provide substantial funding to enhance local transport networks and include funding for local highway maintenance.

It is up to each authority to decide how best to spend this funding to fulfil its statutory duty under section 41 of the Highways Act 1980, including how much to spend on pothole repairs.
