The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many hospitals in Wave 1 of the New Hospital Programme are planned to be built (a) on and (b) adjacent to existing sites; and which schemes are not planned to be built (a) on and (b) adjacent to existing sites.

Schemes in Wave 1 of the New Hospital Programme are being developed to reflect local clinical and infrastructure requirements. Some hospitals are being rebuilt on or adjacent to existing sites where this is suitable with adequate space, while others are progressing new site options where this represents the most deliverable and value for money solution. Final decisions on site locations for individual schemes are subject to approval of Full Business Cases. The following table shows whether the proposed locations of the new hospital schemes are on and adjacent to the existing site, or on and non-adjacent to the existing site:
