The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what transitional funding will be made available to shadow unitary authorities in Suffolk between elections in May 2027 and vesting day in April 2028; and how that figure was calculated.

The Government announced £63 million in additional capacity funding to support local authorities in areas undergoing local government reorganisation, with each new unitary authority receiving at least £900,000. This means that, across the three new unitary authorities in Suffolk, at least £2.7 million in total will be available in transition funding. It will be for councils to decide how to spend allocations, and this extra funding will help complete reorganisation effectively and sustainably.
As set out in the Written Ministerial Statement of 25 March 2026 on Local Government Reorganisation, UIN HCWS1455, this transition funding is intended to support the reorganisation process and to establish effective services and governance arrangements.
