F-35 Aircraft

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 24 June 2026UIN 10461

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer of 12 June 2026 to question 6959 on F-35 Aircraft, what progress he has made on facilitating the ability of the Lightning Force to deliver tactical mission set 3.

Answered by Luke Pollard

Fitted with the AN/APG-81 radar and BAE Systems AN/ASQ-239 system the F-35B has powerful Electronic Attack and Radar Jamming capabilities to suppress and disrupt adversary radars. It can also geolocate those adversary radar systems at range and share this by secure datalink to other UK and NATO standoff platforms. We have approvals to proceed with a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) procurement of the precision-guided munition, Small Diameter Bomb (SDB-II), which will provide the F-35B with an interim precision standoff weapon capability until SPEAR-3 enters service.
