The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the size of the defence budget deficit was in 2010-11.

Answered by Luke Pollard

In their report of 21 July 2010, the NAO estimated that the shortfall between the estimated defence budget and the forward defence spending programme was between £6 billion and £36 billion over 10 years, depending on the budget assumptions used.
