To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what progress has been made in contributing to international maternal and child health programmes.

The UK is supporting international progress on maternal and child health by strengthening health systems, advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights, and protecting health security. Through our newly established Community of Expertise in Health, the UK supports countries, including those affected by conflict, to access UK, international and national technical expertise. Key programmes include UK support to the Global Financing Facility which partners with 36 countries to unlock financing and scale interventions such as the Safer Births Bundle, which contributed to a 75 per cent reduction in maternal and 40 per cent reduction in neonatal deaths in Tanzania. In 2024, UK support to the UN Population Fund Supplies Partnership helped avert over 200,000 maternal and child deaths, and the Women's Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) Dividend programme (2024-29) is expected to avert around 9,700 maternal deaths in sub-Saharan Africa.
