The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment she has made of the implications for her policies of the road and footway digital condition assessment and asset management programmes undertaken by counterparts in Northern Ireland.

The Department keeps developments in road maintenance and asset management under review and engages regularly with a wide range of stakeholders, including devolved administrations and industry partners, to share best practice and consider emerging approaches.
The Department is aware of work being undertaken in Northern Ireland on digital condition assessment and asset management and continues to engage with counterparts and industry to understand the potential benefits of new technologies and data-driven approaches. This includes quarterly meetings with the Road Condition Management Group (RCMG), which is chaired by a representative from the Northern Ireland Department for Infrastructure, to discuss automated road condition monitoring and asset management software.
Local highway authorities in England are responsible for managing their networks and are encouraged to adopt asset management best practice, including the use of improved data and digital tools to support more efficient and preventative maintenance.
