To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether her Department is taking steps to help ensure that police officers who are assaulted while carrying out their duties are supported throughout criminal proceedings and any related conduct investigations.

The Government is clear that assaults on police officers are unacceptable and is committed to ensuring officers are properly supported, both as victims of crime and as serving officers.
Through the Police Covenant and Operation Hampshire, we are supporting forces to ensure assaults are consistently reported, investigated and, where appropriate, prosecuted. These measures reflect our commitment to protecting those who serve the public.
We continue to fund the National Police Wellbeing Service (NPWS). The NPWS ensures police officers and staff have access to the health and wellbeing support they need, including providing support for those who have been victims of assault.
