The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, how many new homes have been built in each region of England in each of the last five years compared with local housing targets.

My Department publishes an annual release entitled ‘Housing supply: net additional dwellings, England’, which is the primary and most comprehensive measure of housing supply. This includes estimates of new homes built in each region, in each financial year, to 2024-25, and can be found in Live Table 118 on gov.uk here.
It is for local authorities to calculate their local housing need figure. This should be based on the standard method set out in national planning practice guidance, which can be found on gov.uk here, using the most up-to-date data at the time of calculation.
