Roads: Safety Barriers
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the answer of 17 February 2026 to Question 111458, whether that data has been verified; and when National Highways plans to finalise the projected length of steel central reserve barrier to be replaced with concrete barrier during Road Period 3.

The data has been verified and will be sent to the Rt Hon Member for Basildon and Billericay shortly.
With regards to concrete barrier in Roads Period 3, NH’s commitment is to deliver 1,191 km (+/- 5%) of barrier asset renewal, excluding repairs to third party damage.
The assets renewed are identified based on asset condition and prioritised and programmed as part of the wider renewals programme. For each site, a design solution will be developed as part of this planning process and concrete barrier will be used where this is the best value solution based on site-specific conditions.
At the start of each financial year, NH will have a projection of the expected concrete barrier output, subject to ongoing programme change management. For 26-27, NH expects to deliver around 2,500 metres of concrete barrier.
