Companies: Registration
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, with reference to the Companies House press release entitled Progress made in cleaning up Companies House register as further steps taken to tackle economic crime, published on 11 June 2026, what estimate he has made of the number of companies registered in (a) Thurrock, (b) Basildon and (c) Essex that have completed identity verification requirements.
Answered by Blair McDougall
All companies that have incorporated since 18 November 2025 have been required to complete identity verification on incorporation. Companies registered prior to 18 November 2025 are required to verify their identity and attach this to their appointment via filing a confirmation statement.
The number of accepted confirmation statements since the 18 November 2025 for companies self-reporting that their registered office address is as follows:
| Thurrock | Basildon | Essex (including Basildon) |
Number of accepted confirmation statements | 6,116 | 7,772 | 58,590 |
Number of accepted incorporation documents | 1,099 | 1,178 | 8,259 |
The geographic framework used is the unitary authority and as a result Basildon is included as part of Essex. The numbers provided relate to confirmation statements accepted between 18 November 2025 and 17 June 2026.
