Sports: Public Participation

Asked by Jas AthwalLabourDepartment for Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 18 June 2026UIN 900510

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what funding her Department is providing to help increase levels of participation in grassroots sport.

Answered by Stephanie Peacock

The Government believes in the power of grassroots sport. Everyone should have access to quality sport and physical activity opportunities.

We provide the majority of support through our Arm’s Length Body, Sport England, which annually invests over £250 million in Exchequer and Lottery funding to support grassroots participation.

Sport England invests in over 90 place partnerships to promote sport and physical activity opportunities in the communities that need it most.
