Railways: North East Hampshire
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, with reference to the Answer of 6 March 2025 to Question 34143, what mechanisms her Department uses to monitor (a) train service performance and (b) improvements in the North East Hampshire constituency.
Answered by Keir Mather
The Minister for Rail and Department officials are in regular conversation with South Western Railway (SWR) regarding its service provision, reliability and response to demand. SWR has also been managing inherited delays to the introduction of the new Arterio fleet from the previous owning group and a shortage of trained drivers, which has affected service resilience and contributed to cancellations. Driver recruitment and training have been accelerated under public ownership, with over 50 new Arterios now in service in comparison to 6 prior to public ownership, but rebuilding this capability will take time.
