Local Government: Reorganisation

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of Housing, Communities and Local GovernmentTabled Answered 24 June 2026UIN 11275

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what discussions his Department has held with officials from the Unison union on local government reorganisation.

Answered by Alison McGovern

The Department has been working closely with trade unions, including Unison, as we develop support and guidance to assist councils with the transition and will continue to do so throughout the process.

Several discussions have focussed on staffing matters involved in reorganisation, specifically the transfer of staff from predecessor councils to new unitaries, in recognition of the vital role staff representatives will have throughout this process.
