Ambulance Services: Slough

Asked by Mr Tanmanjeet Singh DhesiLabourDepartment of Health and Social CareTabled Answered 25 June 2026UIN 11442

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent steps have been taken to reduce ambulance waiting times in Slough.

Answered by Karin Smyth

The Government recognises that ambulance response times are not meeting the high standards patients should expect. We are determined to address this challenge and have set out a clear path for improvement. On the 25 October 2025 we published the Medium Term Planning Framework. Key ambulance ambitions include reducing average Category 2 ambulance response times to 25 minutes by the end of 2026/27.

Ambulance services in Slough are delivered by the South Central Ambulance Service. The trust is continuing to reduce response times through an on-going improvement programme, including: expanding the use of clinicians in 999 contact centres, to provide more telephone care for less serious calls, allowing ambulance crews to focus on the most serious patients; reviewing the scope and practice of clinical roles, looking at how to make the best use of different levels of clinical skills, and developing more specialist roles.
