Department for Transport: Training

The Department for Transport provides learning to civil servants primarily through Civil Service Learning Frameworks and internally developed learning. Occasionally, training is required that is not covered by the Learning Frameworks. For the purpose of this response, externally procured training programmes are defined as any learning undertaken by staff, ranging from single-day workshops to qualifications that may take several years to complete, procured outside the Learning Frameworks.

The below table lists training that has been booked externally, approved directly by the central department’s Learning and Development team and where training completion has been verified for May 2026.

Please note this is unlikely to be an exhaustive list as learning and development budgets are delegated to individual business areas, who manage this locally. This also does not cover the department’s executive agencies.

To compile a complete list would require contacting each business area across the central department and its agencies, asking them to produce their own information, and then collating and validating the responses. This would exceed the time and cost limits for responding.
