Jylman Red Jurado Farfán
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether she has made representations to the Government of Venezuela on access to urgent medical treatment, religious materials, and spiritual support for Bishop Jylman Red Jurado Farfán.
Answered by Chris Elmore
The UK remains concerned about the human rights situation in Venezuela, including the treatment of detainees, and we have repeatedly called on the Venezuelan authorities to uphold human rights and cooperate fully with international mechanisms, including in our statement to the Human Rights Council (HRC) on 26 June. As part of our efforts to press for a peaceful, democratic transition in Venezuela, we will continue to reinforce the importance of ensuring that the rights of all Venezuelans are upheld, including members of the church.
