National Highways

Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 30 June 2026UIN 11756

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 20 May 2026 to Question 1718, how many staff employed by National Highways undertake stakeholder engagement, public affairs, public relations and external affairs functions as (a) the entirety and (b) part of their role.

Answered by Simon Lightwood

Stakeholder engagement and external affairs are an important part of National Highways’ work and are routinely undertaken by a range of teams across the organisation in relation to projects and operational matters. As such, it is not possible accurately to quantify the number of staff that contribute to this work as part of their roles. National Highways employs 17 people in its External Affairs team.
