Animal Welfare: Artificial Intelligence

Asked by Andrew RosindellReform UKDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 26 June 2026UIN 11605

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, whether she will make it her Department’s policy to mandate artificial intelligence in the enforcement of animal welfare legislation.

Answered by Stephen Morgan

This Government has no plans to mandate the use of artificial intelligence in enforcing animal welfare. As with any innovative approach, it is important to carefully assess the merits and potential of emerging solutions such as artificial intelligence before mandating their use.
