The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps she has taken to support local authorities in upholding animal welfare standards.

Answered by Stephen Morgan

Local authorities are key operational partners responsible for enforcing animal welfare legislation, alongside delivering services such as licensing and the management of stray dogs. This Government works closely with local authorities and other partners to support consistent and effective enforcement, including through guidance, training and the sharing of best practice.
