Armoured Fighting Vehicles: Procurement

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 25 June 2026UIN 11883

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, for what vehicle platform the award of a £19.7 million contract for 270 Recce Strike Vehicle for 11 Brigade was made.

Answered by Luke Pollard

Project NIALA is an Army initiative established to meet an emergent capability requirement for 11 Brigade following its transition from a Security Force Assistance Brigade to a Tactical Recce Strike Brigade. The project will provide 270 Recce Strike Vehicles and associated support. The selected vehicle platform is the Toyota Hilux Invincible X.

Project NIALA is separate from the Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) sub-programme within the Land Mobility Programme, which is a distinct procurement activity to replace the in-service Land Rover and Pinzgauer fleets across Defence. There are no interdependencies, support relationships or planned exploitation pathways between LMV and Project NIALA.
