The question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what steps the Government is taking to support forces in embedding equality, diversity and inclusion across operational policing, in particular during proposed police force mergers.

The Police Reform White Paper, published on 26 January 2026, set out the Government’s commitment to introduce a new model for policing, so that it is fit for the modern world and we have the right policing in the right places.
The Independent Review of Police Force Structures was launched on 17 March 2026. It will make recommendations on the optimal configuration of police forces and how the move to fewer police forces should be delivered to minimise operational disruption. The Review will give consideration to workforce and HR matters.
Diversity, Equality and Inclusion are values represented in the police Code of Ethics. The Code is at the heart of police practice and is a cornerstone of police training and development. It is for chief constables to ensure effective implementation in forces both in policing communities and internally.
