Armed Forces: Driverless Vehicles

Asked by Joe RobertsonConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 30 June 2026UIN 12036

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how much his Department has spent on digital testing, simulation and virtual development environments to support the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles.

Answered by Luke Pollard

As autonomous vehicles become commonplace in Defence’s Research, Development and Planning, the investment in the digital testing, simulation and virtual development environments is often bespoke to the nature and role of the capability and integrated into the overall cost of the project. This work takes place across the MOD and there is no central record of the MOD’s spend on these environments.
