Defence
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what recent progress he has made on implementing a national conversation on defence and security.
Answered by Louise Sandher-Jones
I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my predecessor on 13 April to Question 123336.
The Government remains committed to strengthening national preparedness and the communication of threats through the national conversation to increase public awareness of the most serious risks we face. The Ministry of Defence is progressing a programme of work, aligned with the Cabinet Office-led Home Defence Programme, to facilitate a whole of society approach to defence and security.
This commitment was reinforced by the Prime Minister’s remarks on 5 June 2026, highlighting that we are living in more dangerous and volatile times with increasing state backed attacks across the UK and other countries. This Government recognises the role of society in supporting our Armed Forces to deter the threat of conflict.
