USA: NATO
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what discussions he has had with his US counterpart on the announcement of a 6 month review into NATO.
Answered by Louise Sandher-Jones
The UK continues to work closely with the United States to advance fairer burden sharing across the Alliance and the Defence Secretary met his US counterpart at the recent NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting.
As set out in the previous response to questions 11427, 11428, 11429, and 11430 on 24 June 2026, we welcome greater clarity from the United States on its future force posture in Europe and remain committed to strengthening European contributions within NATO. The US continues to play a central role in NATO’s deterrence and defence. At the same time, the UK, alongside European and Canadian Allies, are stepping up significantly, increasing both capability and readiness.
Together, this ensures a stronger, more balanced Alliance, one that is better equipped to deter threats, defend Allied territory, and respond to an increasingly challenging security environment.
