Public Transport: Infrastructure
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment she has made of the return on investment of public transport infrastructure connecting areas of high unemployment to HS2 employment sites.
Answered by Simon Lightwood
The Department has not published a single quantified assessment specifically of connectivity between areas of high unemployment and HS2 employment sites in the West Midlands.
Evidence shows significant regeneration and employment growth around HS2 stations at Curzon Street and Interchange, reinforcing the importance of effective local transport links in connecting communities to these opportunities, consistent with HS2’s role in supporting jobs and skills.
WMCA has been allocated £2.4 billion of Transport for City Regions (TCR) funding up to 2031/32. This devolved settlement enables WMCA and the Mayor to determine how funding is allocated across the region in line with local transport priorities.
