Information Commissioner's Office: Public Appointments

Asked by Esther McVeyConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 1 July 2026UIN 12110

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether recruitment for the next Information Commissioner has commenced; and if she will publish the expected timetable for an appointment.

Answered by Ian Murray

DSIT and the ICO have continued to work together on the transition to the Information Commission whilst the independent investigation was taking place. Due to the changes to the regulator’s governance structure, DSIT will be recruiting a Chair of the Information Commission in due course. A timetable will be set out when the campaign is launched.
