Forests: Commodities
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to the Written Ministerial Statement of 23 June 2026 on The UK’s Approach to Deforestation Regulations, HCWS 137, which forest-risk commodities will be included within the scope of the proposed regulations.
Answered by Mary Creagh
In Northern Ireland, EUDR requirements will apply to wood, cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soy and certain derived products like chocolate and furniture.
In Great Britain, requirements are intended to apply to the same commodities outlined above. The Government has prioritised these commodities because of their association with global deforestation and forest degradation. UK consumption of these commodities is estimated to account for around 19,000 hectares of deforestation annually, approximately 66% of the UK’s consumption-linked overseas deforestation footprint.
The approach to defining the specific products in scope will be set out in consultation for stakeholder feedback.
