To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether her Department has undertaken a review of retained European Union-derived provisions relating to Category C1 driving licence entitlement since the UK left the European Union; and whether she plans to bring forward proposals for reform.

The department keeps category entitlements under review to ensure they remain fit for purpose.
The department considered potential changes to Category C1 driving licence entitlement as part of the 2022 driving licensing call for evidence, which sought views on opportunities for changes to the driver licensing regime following the UK’s departure from the European Union. This included whether drivers with a Category B car licence should be granted additional entitlement to drive Category C1 vehicles.
The Department is not currently bringing forward proposals to reform Category C1 entitlement.
Any future changes would need to be considered carefully, including the implications for road safety and the UK’s international obligations.
