To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the impact of 240 additional detention beds at Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre on the number of enforced returns.

The additional 240 beds at Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) form part of the IRC Expansion Programme, which will deliver around 1,000 additional long‑term male bed spaces, increasing overall detention capacity to approximately 3,500 beds.
Increased detention capacity is expected to support higher levels of enforced returns by enabling the detention of more individuals, including illegal migrants and time‑served foreign national offenders, and by improving system throughput.
The additional capacity will also support the management of demand across the detention estate, strengthen resilience, and mitigate operational constraints associated with limited bed capacity, supporting increased returns over time in line with the Government’s “Secure Borders” and “Safer Streets” priorities.
