Armed Forces: Housing

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 3 July 2026UIN 12857

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, when he expects to publish a detailed timetable for the refurbishment, redevelopment and rebuilding of Service Family Accommodation properties acquired through the repurchase agreement with Annington Property Ltd.

Answered by Luke Pollard

Under the Defence Housing Service, the Department will report annually to Parliament on how Defence family homes perform against the Decent Homes Standard and any additional standards set by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The Defence Housing Strategy sets out the vision for a generational renewal of Defence family homes. Nine in ten homes will be upgraded, renewed or rebuilt, backed by a record £9 billion investment over a decade. The Armed Forces Bill will establish the new Defence Housing Service as the vehicle to improve the supply and quality of Defence family homes, putting the needs of Forces and their families first, to support defence communities.

We are already making rapid improvements to drive positive changes for Service families. As set out earlier this year, we will be refurbishing 2,000 homes across the UK in the next 12 months alone, building on 1,250 of the worst condition properties already brought up to standard under the Consumer Charter last year.
