Railways: Nationalisation
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the answer of 22 June 2026 to Question 10032, what estimate has she made of the annual savings from state control of the railways beyond management fees payable to private operators.
Answered by Keir Mather
Moving train operating companies back into public ownership will end decades of fragmentation and waste. Train operators in public ownership are beginning to work closer together and, with Network Rail, forming integrated railways - shifting from adversarial contractual relationships to a focus on delivering for passengers.
