Large Goods Vehicles: Electric Vehicles
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 22 June 2026 to Question 8651 on Large Goods Vehicles: Electric Vehicles, what estimate her Department has made of the proportion of heavy goods vehicle journeys for which charging cannot be aligned with existing downtime periods.
Answered by Keir Mather
The Department expect that most electric Heavy Goods Vehicles will be recharged overnight. For those which are not, we expect they will be recharged during mandatory driver rest breaks or during periods when they are stopping for other reasons. An analysis of this will be conducted as part of cost benefit analysis alongside the introduction of any future regulation.
