To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to the publication entitled Changes to the Single Data List from April 2020, updated 8 May 2026, for what reason the data collection on Strategic Overview of Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk has been discontinued.

Defra and the Environment Agency (EA) discontinued this Single Data List collection because it has been superseded by new national flood and coastal erosion risk information, including the National Flood Risk Assessment and National Coastal Erosion Risk Map. These provide a more comprehensive, consistent and regularly updated assessment of risk, integrating national modelling with local data. As a result, a separate Strategic Overview return from local authorities is no longer required, reducing duplication and reporting burden while improving the quality of available data. The EA will continue to report on changes in properties in areas at risk from flooding and coastal erosion and investment levels in the Flood and coastal erosion risk management annual report - GOV.UK .
