To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of whether the current integration of coastal erosion into broader flood risk management policy constrains the development of targeted solutions; and what plans she has to establish a distinct funding and policy framework for coastal erosion.

In October 2025, following consultation, the government announced major changes to its flood and coastal erosion funding policy, making it quicker and easier to deliver the right defences in the right places. Feedback from the consultation, including from coastal stakeholders, has informed and will continue to inform policy decisions.
Between April 2024 and March 2026, around £609 million was allocated into protection from sea flooding, tidal flooding and coastal erosion. £516 million of this was allocated by government with the remainder funded by other risk management authorities and private contributions.
Coastal erosion funding is addressed through the flooding and coastal erosion risk management programme to ensure a joined-up and coordinated approach.
