Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 2 July 2026UIN 13413

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to her Department's press release entitled UK backs communities on the ocean's front line with £13.9 million investment, published on 17 June 2026, what proportion of the investment will be classified as Overseas Development Assistance.

Answered by Mary Creagh

All funding committed to the Blue Planet Fund (BPF) is attributed as Official Developing Assistance (ODA) spend.

At the recent Our Ocean Conference in Kenya, the UK announced £13.9m additional funding for marine ODA programming under the BPF.

Funding announcements included: a £6.7 million contribution to the World Bank’s PROBLUE multidonor trust fund; up to £2.2 million to the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA); and £5 million for the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP).
