Railways: Fares

Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 7 July 2026UIN 13931

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether it is her policy to expand the LNER fare pilot to other publicly owned train operating companies.

Answered by Keir Mather

We are simplifying fares and ticketing so passengers can trust they are buying the right ticket, every time, with a more consistent offer across the network. The current London North Eastern Railway trial simplifies ticket choices and gives passengers more flexible options to travel at cheaper, less busy times. We will set out our plans for long distance fares reform on other routes in due course.
