Department for Science, Innovation and Technology: Public Appointments

Asked by Alex BurghartConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 7 July 2026UIN 13897

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether her Department's GDPR guidelines allow the publication of declared political activity for their Direct Ministerial Appointments.

Answered by Ian Murray

As set out in the Cabinet Office 'Guidance on Making Direct Ministerial Appointments', these are appointments made directly by ministers which are also public office holders, but which are not public appointments. The Department publishes Direct Ministerial Appointment details in accordance with the requirements in the relevant Cabinet Office guidance and in compliance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
