Veterinary Services: Insecticides

Asked by Perran MoonLabourDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 2 July 2026UIN 14185

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of the potential merits of moving the Be Spot-on Aware campaign from a protective to risk-based, targeted approach.

Answered by Stephen Morgan

As there is currently no clear, shared definition of what constitutes risk-based use in practice, the initial focus has been reducing environmental exposure following a decision to treat. This reflects the need to take proportionate action while the evidence base is further developed. In parallel, work is ongoing to build the scientific and behavioural evidence needed to support a more targeted approach.
